Andrew Chappell is the bass trombonist with the Rochester Philharmonic and Santa Fe Opera. He has performed with the Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston and New Mexico symphonies as well as the Minnesota Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony of Sweden and Malaysian Philharmonic. Prior to coming to Santa Fe, he spent three summers with the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder.

He has given solo recitals in Chicago, Rochester, Nashville and Houston. He has shared the stage with Jennifer Holiday, Wynonna Judd and Carol Channing though, unfortunately, not on the same night. As a member of the Santa Fe Opera Trombone Quartet and Rochester Philharmonic Trombones he has performed recitals at the Church of Beethoven in Albuquerque and throughout New York State. He is a member of the Burning River Brass, an acclaimed brass ensemble based in Cleveland.

Mr. Chappell received his Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College where he studied with Ray Premru and his Master of Music degree from Rice University where he studied with David Waters. After graduating he was a Fellow at the New World Symphony in Miami Beach under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas.

Originally from San Francisco, Mr. Chappell has a hard time leaving the West at the end of every summer.
